On August 4, 2007, local Steve Quilico and I drove up a bumpy road (4-wheel high clearance vehicle required) inside South Cottonwood Canyon that came quite close to Jones Mountain and Ptarmigan Lake. After a short walk up to a ridge, we arrived at Ptarmigan Lake from the "other side." It was a great day! You can see my photo report here: 4-Wheel to Ptarmigan Lake.
